(Part 1) 3 Ways to Grease a Sealed Bearing Without Disassembling It

2018-01-05

Parts such as bearings are used in almost all machinery. They support shafts and axles and maintain the specified rigidity of the overall structure.

At the factory, they are filled with grease, but over time, it wears out and the bearings begin to seize and suffer severe wear. Let's tell you how to lubricate such elements without disassembly.

Method 1

Before greasing, the bearing must be cleaned (using solvent, benzene or other agents) and then thoroughly dried.

If grease is packed in a tube, cut off the neck. Material from a can can be drawn into a syringe, then cut off the spout.

Take a plastic bag, twist it up, and place it in the inner rim of the bearing. The bag should sit tight and protrude slightly.

Press the tube or syringe into the center of the bearing and squeeze grease until it comes out the other side of the ring. This will penetrate the gap between the inside of the seal and the outside of the cage.

Rotate the bearing slightly so that the grease can spread better. More grease can be added as needed. Remove excess grease with a rag.

Method 2

You will need a vise, a vacuum cleaner, a rubber ring to match the diameter of its tube, a bolt and some grease.

Connect the vacuum cleaner and place its tube vertically, clamping it in a vise. Place the ring in the top hole of the tube. Insert a bolt into the bearing to make it easier to hold. Put the part on the rubber ring and apply grease to it.

Turn on the vacuum cleaner, it will draw the grease inside the bearing through the gaps. Use your fingers to help distribute it.
